The Glia Society

Requirements

Required is the 99.9th adult population centile[1] on any of the accepted tests with a mixture of item types, or on each of two accepted "one-sided" tests with different item types. Only first attempts are accepted, not retests. Only the tests listed are accepted. ***Please make sure you understand this paragraph to avoid the loss of time and disappointment of applying without qualifying scores!***

Some of these tests can be found on I.Q. Tests for the High Range.

Tests with a mixture of item types

Required: 99.9th centile (unless otherwise indicated).

Numerical tests

Required: A score corresponding to the 99.9th centile (unless otherwise indicated) on one of these AND one of the Verbal, Spatial or Logic tests. ***Please make sure you understand this paragraph to avoid the loss of time and disappointment of applying without qualifying scores!***

Spatial tests

Required: A score corresponding to the 99.9th centile (unless otherwise indicated) on one of these AND one of the Verbal, Numerical or Logic tests. ***Please make sure you understand this paragraph to avoid the loss of time and disappointment of applying without qualifying scores!***

Logic tests

Notes

[1] This means children too will be admitted if they qualify by adult norms (not childhood or any kind of age peer norms).

The minimum requirement is the actual 99.9th centile; that is, the actual value of 99.9 or higher. That is, not accepted are lower values like 99.89 that become 99.9 when conveniently rounded up. Or, if one insists, the requirement is 99.90. Although the information in this paragraph is superfluous, some require it for they otherwise claim the right of rounding up from as low as 99.85 onward. For further clarification it is pointed out that because of the extremely non-linear nature of centiles, rounding at the high end is not acceptable as the values there are "far apart" on any underlying scale. Back.

[2] To accommodate for the fact that some individuals may have credentials - not necessarily test scores - that are not explicitly listed above, which in turn partly results from there being so many high-range tests now that it is no longer possible to verify for each particular test whether it is suitable for admission purposes by itself, and despite the less objective and less deterministic nature of the procedure, persons who are assessed - based on the whole of their information and not so much on the height of their possible scores (and never on scores alone) - as being markedly above the admission level will be admitted even without formally qualifying otherwise.

To allow for such assessment, contact the administrator, request the assessment, provide any personal and other information you deem relevant (but keep it brief and refer to web pages if possible rather than including too much material in your message), and enclose one or a few copies of test score reports if available. The administrator may ask for additional information if needed. In the case of a negative decision you will receive no response. In the other case you will be notified and admitted, normally after payment of an assessment fee in the order of a test fee. So assessment is a "win-win" situation; either you are admitted or you save yourself the fee! Think of what you can do with all of that money!

For clarity it is pointed out that real-life achievement, like creative productivity, is as relevant as possible test scores in this procedure, and that memberships in I.Q. societies are hardly to not relevant and therefore need and should not be listed. Furthermore it is stressed that a request that betrays not-understanding of the procedure just sketched - for instance by providing only test scores and no other information regarding ability and creative productivity, or by listing one's memberships - will not be honoured but rather considered evidence that one is not "at the level".

Finally, please note that all said in this footnote applies only to assessment procedures, not to regular applications; do not send assessment-type material when applying for membership through the registration form with qualifying scores. Back.
