Tarot cards first appeared in 14th century Italy as far as one knows with certainty, while it is thought Gypsies brought them to Europe from the far East. The most popular Tarot is the 1910 Rider-Waite-Smith deck: 78 cards divided into 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana. Rider was the original publisher, Arthur Edward Waite the author, and Pamela Coleman Smith the artist. It is assumed Waite had assistance from a good friend of his, William Butler Yeats, the Irish poet and 1923 Nobel Prize winner. These people knew each other through involvement in occult societies.
Many explanations of this Tarot have been published, and most of its symbols are too obscure to be understood intuitively by the uninitiated. The popular interpretations aimed at fortune-telling are gravely mistaken. We have decoded the Arcana through independent research. We have unlocked the arcanum; we have found the hidden message; we know the secret that went unknown for 95 years. For the first time since 1910, it is revealed.
It is best to have the cards at hand while reading. They are NOT included with or depicted in the article, as they are protected by copyright in the European Union and will enter the public domain only in 2012, seventy years after the death of A.E. Waite. If one does not have or want to buy the cards one may find images of them on the Internet, searching with words like "rider-waite tarot".
This interpretation is not for divination; it does NOT focus on spiritual, esoteric matters, but on the more worldly, historical aspects. We recommend to read the explanations of the Arcana in the order they are presented in and not skip ahead. Thus one will experience the revelation as if one were making the discovery oneself. We will be one's guide on the path to the light. We promise no less than breathtaking insight into a true secret; the dynamite in the mind otherwise the privilege of genius.
Actually, one of the cards still contains what appears to be a message in code that we have not cracked yet. If you manage to decipher it and we agree that your solution is the intended one, we will mention it with your name in the article. It would be like solving a difficult IQ test problem, only instead of an IQ you receive eternal fame. We are pleased to offer you this opportunity, which for most readers will be their once-in-a-lifetime chance at immortality.
